Orit Tykocinski
The risk of insurance
Description
People buy insurance for economic reasons, but also for psychological ones. Prof. Orit Tykocinski explores the connection between insurance and “magical thinking”, and explains why buying insurance to please your psyche, rather than your bank account - is a risky business.
Bio
Prof. Orit E. Tykocinski is a faculty member in the School of Psychology at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, Israel. In her research she explores the role of regret in intuitive judgments; the phenomenon of “inaction inertia” in consumer behavior and political negotiations; emotion-based financial choices; and the effects of “magical thinking” on subjective risk assessments and insurance decisions. Prof. Tykocinski is one of the founders of the Dice@IDC decision research center.

Why multiple choice exams won’t prepare you for the future!
Description
The digital transformation is changing social communication, work and learning processes. This requires an adaptation of the competencies that the educational institutions are especially responsible for communicating. Not only IT skills, but also so-called human skills such as collaboration, creativity, empathy or entrepreneurial thinking, are becoming tremendously important. What skills do we need in the future for an increasingly dynamic and unpredictable world of work and life? How does the transformation from focusing on knowledge formation to the development of future skills succeed? How do teaching and learning places have to change and what role do educational institutions, companies and civil society play in this? Current educational structures and practices were designed for late 19th/ early 20th century requirements, but this outdated system is no longer appropriate for the 21st century ways of living. Transformations in society, culture, economy, politics, employment and knowledge require us to fundamentally rethink how we perceive, organise and reinvent education.
Bio
Isabell Fries is a communications expert as spokeswoman of the Secretary General of CSU in Munich and is a moderator and speaker. After having graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Politics and Economics from Zeppelin University in 2017 with semesters abroad in Odense and Brussels she finished her MSc at Copenhagen Business School in 2019. Due to her expertise in future skills she got invited to the University of Cambridge’s Institute for Manufacturing. As a member of Darwin College she researched about uniquely human abilities, future skills and the future of work. Having experienced best of both worlds: the innovative Nordic as well as the traditional Cambridge view on education, Isabell wants to share her insights and solutions how the educational system needs to be rethought. With a family business background she is experienced as (Junior) Consultant in HR & Business Development as well as in international media and politics. As a speaker and expert within the topics of the future of education and future skills, she had the honor to work and discuss with renowned experts at numerous events, e.g. Google Copenhagen, OECD or Aalto University. Isabell asks herself: what are future trends and what are the challenges in tackling them and has special interests in AI and the future of education.

It’s time to reshape identity for the future of work
Description
Work is an identity-forming characteristic for many people. But the world of work is changing. It is our chance for a new level of development. Basically, we must be clear about our identity. It defines our strengths and talents - and what we understand by purpose. Will work still be important for us in the future? If work loses its extrinsic relevance, the question arises how can we define ourselves as individuals, but also as a community beyond performance? What can companies do to enable their employees to identify themselves? And, most importantly, what can you do for yourself?
Bio
In 2019, Jasmine was running from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. 550 km, in a team, without rules. As a passionate runner, she knows that in marathon running, just like in transformation processes, it is important to keep an eye on your goal at every step. This is the only way to create sustainable change.
As an expert for New Workspace and New Work at Axel Springer SE, her team and she find strategies on how to successfully accompany change and how more people find their way into a fulfilled professional life.
In addition she is the Co-Host of the happy works. Podcast taking the listeners on a journey into happy and successful ways of working.
As a volunteer she is involved in the organizations Future Legends and Startup Teens to enable young girls and teenagers to acquire skills for the digital age.

Nature-inspired future technologies
Description
Global challenges center around aspects such as deforestation, hunger, energy, and climate. These problems have been addressed by nature for millenia in a decentralized fashion: from binding nitrogen as fertilizer to photosynthesis for energy harvesting. Interestingly, human technologies can't reproduce these capabilities - something that may change with the rise of quantum technologies.
Bio
Thomas Monz has been working in the field of quantum research, with a focus on quantum computing, for more than 15 years. In 2018 he founded, together with Prof. Rainer Blatt and Prof. Peter Zoller, AQT - a startup focusing on the realization of an ion-trap based quantum computer.
Jake Cohn
Be Stubborn
Description
According to Jake Cohn, you should "Be Stubborn" especially when living with a life-threatening disease like asthma.
A near-death experience at birth and severely impaired lung function resulted in Jake having to be on oxygen for much of his childhood and he spent numerous birthdays in the hospital because of asthma. But Jake hasn't let his asthma or lack of lung function slow him down.
Jake learned to deal with his asthma and has gone on to become a pro skier who now travels the world.
As a skier, you train and perform at high altitudes. As we know the higher you go the thinner the air becomes and the harder it is to breathe. Imagine performing at a professional level at high altitudes and with Asthma (a condition that makes your airways constricted). Now imagine you have only 35% of your total lung function like Jake has today.
Bio
Jake has battled serious asthma from infancy, including lengthy stays in the hospital and frequent emergency room visits. Jake’s condition led doctors to predict that he would never have a “normal” life, and Jake agrees, his life as a professional freeskier is not normal.

The only way that you can purposefully influence anything in your life is by your decisions. The rest of your life just happens. This TEDx Talk provides practical concepts and useful procedures that guide you to improve your decision-making
Bio
Johannes Siebert is a professor in the Department of Business & Management at the Management Center Innsbruck (Austria). His research objective is to contribute to better informed decision-making of individuals as well as of organizations. Therefore, his passion is to teach value-focused decision-making skills to high-school and university students, managers, and political stakeholders. Johannes also works as a consultant. For example, with Ralph Keeney he identified and structured the strategic objectives for a leading European energy provider after Germany had decided to fade out nuclear energy. He further established with Detlof von Winterfeldt the objectives of the terrorist group Islamic State to provide a basis for creating effective procedures to protect civilians in the Middle East, the US, and Europe. Hey dude, where's my data? Implications of cloud computing for businesses, society and YOU!
Description
Cloud Computing is the biggest IT technology shift of the 21st century, with hundreds of billions spent by businesses on their cloud transformations each year. Almost invisible to the public, the way that private data is processed and transferred around the globe is changing extremely rapidly. It is safe to say that in the near future most, if not all, data will be in the custody of only a handful of companies. In this talk I want to show you what is actually behind the fluffy term Cloud Computing and explain to you what it really means for us in the grand scheme of things.
Bio
Matthias is the CEO and co-founder of the globally acting Cloud Transformation software company Txture. Before founding Txture, he researched how large organizations can optimize the transformation of their global IT landscapes and received his PhD in Computer Science in 2014. In this capacity he participated in research and development projects in Canada, Germany, the USA, Austria and China.
